The Academy Awards

Hello beautiful people, it is a special day in the film industry... or is it? Tonight on the  ABC  network starting at 8 p.m. EDT Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will be showcasing the 93rd Academy Awards. The Academy Awards also referred to as the Oscars, is the biggest night in the industry that awards the top films of each year.              Truth be told, when I was younger and even now I still get excited to see who wins what, it is quite inspiring. But as I've grown older and have been exposed to a wider range of films, the meaning of the Oscars doesn't fully hold its significance as much anymore. Don't get me wrong I would love to have one someday, but it truly doesn't define what makes a great film or filmmaker or actor. At a young age I thought that once you've had that little golden statue, you've made it in the industry which is not the case at all. Some strive to go into the business just to get recognition at these award shows, but that

The Power Behind Booksmart from an Aspiring Filmmaker

Booksmart Poster with Kaitlyn Dever as Amy and Beanie Feldstein as Molly Towards the end of my senior year of high school, I found out about this film called  Booksmart  directed by Olivia Wilde. From the trailer alone I knew it was going to be great. But after watching it, I didn't think this film would impact me the way it did.   Booksmart  is about two studious best friends who are high school seniors that find out that the popular students in their class also got into top universities. Since these girls devoted most of their academic careers to their studies instead of balancing it with their social lives, they decide to live it up the night before their graduation. From the premise alone my friends and I can kind of relate. Truth be told I was kind of a nerdy student who put my all towards my studies and occasionally would have a social life. Although I can recount a lot of fun and exciting memories with my friends, most of the high school revolved around my terrible sleep

The True Villain in The Devil Wears Prada

Meryl Streep playing Miranda Priestly in  The Devil Wears Prada (2006) Growing up my mother, sister, and I would watch the renowned movie titled,  The Devil Wears Prada.  My adolescent self was mesmerized by the glamorous world of fashion. From when I first saw it to now I am still reciting the famous Cerulean monologue, and envision myself as the editor-in-chief of  Vogue.  "Everybody wants to be us," said the strong-willed boss Miranda Priestly, and boy was she right! The character played by Meryl Streep presented herself as a dominant, powerful, lavish boss; who would do anything to remain at the top of the food chain. Audiences influence a notion that Priestly was the villain of the narrative as a result of how she pushed her employees to the limit. Priestly's harsh words and supercilious actions overshadowed the true villain in the movie, Nate, Andrea's unsupportive boyfriend. It is a known fact that in films we have a protagonist and an antagonist, or in other

The Portrayal of Women in Film and Tropes

Hello, my name is Tiffany Franco, and I aspire to work in the entertainment industry creating both films and television shows. As a student currently taking production classes, it is important to understand the art of formatting a screenplay in addition to learning different methods of creating compelling stories. My blog,  The   Film Guru  will explore, commentate, and analyze the art of creating films and television shows.       Recently, I came across this  Tik Tok  about a girl asking her audience about specific tropes they can't overlook anymore in the entertainment industry. Knowing the  Tik Tok  algorithm, by liking just one of these videos meant I was in for an outpour of these duets or responses to the original question. After scrolling through 'my for you page' to feed my  Tik Tok  addiction, I was indeed correct! For the next few days, I have been reading comments, watching responses, and overall just absorbing the information; and reevaluating how scree
